Orphan Support
The Orphan Support Programme in Debre Berhan provides resources to relatives to look after vulnerable children within the extended family.
The programme is run by community members (Read about our approach) and is designed to become financially sustainable. Our approach encourages the community to look after its orphans and to turn personal tragedy into opportunities that benefit everybody.
During the period 2007 -2011 JeCCDO aims to provide care to a minimum of 500 orphan and vulnerable children in Debre Berhan through its Orphan Support Programme.
In addition to this JeCCDO support community members to assist the reintegration of street children who have left their community with their families/relatives. JeCCDO provides technical support to the community committees in tracing the children and reunifying them with their families. Often one of the parents has died. As many of these children left their home because of dispute and/or low economic status of their families, the community committee in Debre Berhan provides counselling for children and financial and material support for families/relatives so that the children could resume going to schools while living with their families. |
