Orphan support
There are an estimated 10,000 orphan children in Awassa. Many of them are having to live on the streets as one or both of their parents have died and their relatives are not able to support them. The Orphan Support Programme is a means of providing resources to relatives to look after vulnerable children within the family. The programme is run by community members (read about this) and is designed to become financially sustainable. Our approach encourages the community to look after its orphans and to turn personal tragedy into opportunities that benefit everybody.
During the period 2007 to 2011 JeCCDO aims to assist a minimum of 400 orphan and vulnerable children in Awassa through its Orphan Support Programme |
