Orphan Support in Awassa
The orphan children and the carers they are placed with are selected by representatives of the local community.
Once selected they are provided with the following;
• financial support – Families who look after an orphan are provided with financial support which will enable them to cover the day to day cost. A bank account is opened and money is deposited by JeCCDO into the account which the child can access on his/her 16 th birthday to use for further education or training.
• material support – children are provided with money for school uniforms and school items
• tutorial classes - The Ethiopian government only provides half a day schooling. JeCCDO supplements this with half day tutorial classes five days a week.
