Hello and welcome, my name is Addisu Tadege, I am the manager at JeCCDO – Bahir Dar Community Development Program Office (BD CDPO)!
Bahir Dar is one of the oldest intervention areas of JeCCDO where the organization started from the oldest institutional child care approach running orphanages to the present Community Based Childcare using an integrated development approach. The city is one of the fastest growing cities of the country but with wide spread poverty and an ever increasing number of orphan and vulnerable children (OVCs) due to the pandemic HIV/AIDS and other killer diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
The program office is running a number of programs aiming at alleviating the problems of OVCs, women and the youth. The program activities include OVC support, Advocacy and networking, Education, Health and Environmental Sanitation including the prevention of HIV/AIDS, Livelihood Promotion and Urban Agriculture and Environmental Development.
JeCCDO in Bahir Dar covers currently four major kebeles ( kebele is the lowest unit of city administration) namely Shum Abo, Gishe Abay, Belay Zeleke and Sefene Selam benefiting more than 30 thousand people in the area. The major contributions of the organization in the area include a library and information center, 5 legalised community based organisations of which one is currently running all programs of JeCCDO on its own and the other four are working with the CDPO and are expected to reach the same level after four and half years from now.
The Program Office has 9 core staff members including myself as programme manager, 30 support staffs and other 32 voluntary community development facilitators.
We look forward to providing you with news from Bahir Dar so please come back and visit these pages.
Thank you for your support!
