Education
The Ethiopian government provides just half a day of free primary and secondary schooling for five days a week. The JeCCDO project office in Dire Dawa coordinates tutorial programmes for children from 7 - 16 years of age. Tutorial classes are an opportunity to improve academic performance; they are based on peer group discussion and problem solving. Children help each other understand issues they have not understood in school, and tutors are on hand to provide assistance.
Tutorial groups are also an opportunity for children to learn about other issues such as HIV/Aids, gender and welfare issues.
During the period 2007 to 2011 JeCCDO aims to improve the education of a minimum of 4,000 children and young people in Dire Dawa.
