Health and Sanitation Focus
JeCCDO's main focus is working to improve the lives of orphan and vulnerable children. To do this effectively it is necessary to ensure that the children are growing up in a healthy environment.
Improving sanitation in the community is then vital to the children's health and welfare.
Safe waste disposal
Lack of access to properly-constructed toilets can cause major problems for everybody in the community through typhoid and cholera bacteria in raw sewage and stagnant water.
JeCCDO builds toilets in the poorest neighbourhoods. A person is nominated by the neighbourhood to be responsible for ensuring that household members keep the toilets clean and safe to use. The toilets ensure that human waste is disposed of safely and does not end up in water supplies or in the vicinity of young children.
Safe drinking water is also extremely important and JeCCDO works with local communities to install standpipes.
