Our Approach

Our work is guided by the principle that meaningful and lasting development can only take place when poor communities are provided with opportunities to build a better future for themselves.

Since 1987 we have developed this approach working in the poorest urban communities in Ethiopia with our partner organisation JeCCDO. JeCCDO works closely with the poorest urban people developing programmes that enable them to take control of their own lives. JeCCDO does this by setting up community associations in the areas that it works, involving local people from the start of the process and over a period of time handing over the running of the projects to them.
